Pathé has dropped the delightfully chaotic first trailer for Marsupilami, a new French creature feature comedy directed by and starring Philippe Lacheau. Set for a February 4, 2026 release in France, the film brings André Franquin’s beloved comic-book character back to life in a goofy, energetic adventure that mixes slapstick humor with family-friendly mayhem. Although there’s no US release yet, the trailer is already drawing attention for its vibrant visuals and the irresistible charm of its long-tailed yellow hero.

Lacheau leads the cast as David, a man desperate to save his job who agrees to transport a mysterious package from South America. The plan quickly spirals out of control when his clumsy colleague Stéphane accidentally opens the parcel—revealing a baby Marsupilami. From that moment, the group’s supposedly simple trip erupts into a frenzy of chaos, mishaps, and heartwarming silliness. Joining Lacheau are Jamel Debbouze, Tarek Boudali, Élodie Fontan, Julien Arruti, Alban Ivanov, Reem Kherici, Corentin Guillot, and the legendary Jean Reno.

The trailer showcases plenty of comedic antics as David finds himself trapped on a cruise ship with his ex Tess, his son Leo, and a creature known for mischief. The baby Marsupilami’s gigantic springlike tail and boundless energy wreak havoc on every environment—from cabins to decks to jungles—while still managing to remain impossibly cute. Fans of Franquin’s original Spirou comics may also appreciate the faithful design, capturing the spirit of the character’s first appearance back in 1952.

Known for hits like Babysitting, Alibi.com, City Hunter, and Superwho?, Lacheau reunites his usual comedic “Fifi gang” to deliver another high-energy romp. The screenplay, penned by Julien Arruti, Pierre Dudan, and Lacheau, leans into broad humor and outlandish set pieces, embracing the playful absurdity that made Marsupilami a beloved comic icon for decades.

Produced by Patrice Ledoux and backed by Pathé, Marsupilami looks to be a playful, family-friendly crowd-pleaser—one part road-trip adventure, one part creature chaos, and all-around exuberant fun. Whether or not viewers speak French, the trailer’s physical comedy and expressive creature design make it universally enjoyable. For longtime fans and newcomers alike, this wacky jungle-to-cruise-ship escapade could be one of early 2026’s most entertaining surprises.
